Returning to Normalcy

It’s weird to be coming out of the Irene fog. For almost three weeks that’s all I thought of. It’s a slow process coming out, but gets faster as the days go by.

The process probably began when we were told that if we got Route 4 open, we could have the weekend off. The District forces had our side of the mountain open on Thursday the 15th. The Governor came down on the 16th to cut the ribbon and “open” the road. (He came down Friday because it was raining on Thursday, so the photo opportunity wasn’t as good. *rolling eyes*)

I got to sleep in Saturday!! Do some laundry, clean the kennel in the daylight hours, and hang with the dogs for more than just a little bit of time. Then that evening the dogs and I traveled to On a Whim Siberians and went for our first fall run!

We ended up doing two runs of six dogs each for a bit over two miles each run. Rogue got to run right wheel and Rohan was right team. Rohan did a good job and for Rogue’s first time with dogs other than her pack, she was excellent! Tight tug almost the entire way, focused, didn’t dance and get her harness all twisted when we stopped – she was a good girl! The second run had Gambit in team on the left and Turin in lead on the left. Turin, well, we still need to work on command training, but he is forward focused. Gambit didn’t do quite as well as Rogue, but he did a whole lot better than when we were running in the spring!

I was so tired when I got home, but it was such a nice accomplishment in this chaotic time for my state to go on a relaxing run…now if only the weather would be decent for this weekend and maybe I could do a repeat, but it’s supposed to rain (not that we need more rain).

My brook during the storm.
Normally it's less than a foot deep; here it is over six feet deep.
