Frustrated

This winter hasn't been working out like I expected.

We got enough snow to run the dogs from the kennel around Christmas.  Then I had to go and bruise my ribs while out dog sledding and was out of commission for three weeks.  Of course by the end of the three weeks, the snow was gone.

And the snow hasn't returned in enough quantity at the same time to run the dogs from home since.

I know, I know.  Some mushers have to travel hours to get to a trail they can run the dogs on, but what's the use of living on a VAST trail if I can't use it??

Then after my ribs healed, I started running at Wallingford Pond.  Yeah, let's see, we lost the dogs on which run there??  The first one?!

We beat that demon down by running there successfully a few days later and then another week after that.  However the third run at Wallingford Pond was on sketchy snow coverage and ice and we haven't been back since.

The last run was at Landgrove.  It wasn't a bad run, if you discount the dog fight and my bitten arm just above the elbow...  And it was great running with friends for the first time of 2013!  But then it warmed up again and I haven't been out since then.

I was going to hunt up some snow, or at least pack up the dogs and check out Wallingford Pond on Sunday, but that got sidetracked.  I decided to read a bit before packing up, when I noticed that the words were blurry on the page and I had my glasses on.  Then I noticed when looking at the dogs that I couldn't see their whole face, even when looking directly at them.  I started freaking out mentally.  Then I remembered - blurry vision like that is a sign a migraine is about to hit.  I jumped up, ran to the kitchen, swallowed a migraine pill, but it was too late.  Monster headache came roaring to life about five minutes later.  It ended up being a couch day with a tamer monster lurking about by the end of the day.  But the monster lingered into Monday.

I'm still a bit depressed from that.

We got snow last night.  Glorious wet snow.  About four inches over bare ground.  This weekend it's supposed to be in the upper 30s.  I'll probably have a sheet of ice between the house and the kennel and in the kennel again.

I know it's disappointment talking, but I'm about ready for this see-saw winter to be over with.  At least then I can drag the dryland rig out and run the dogs on non-frozen ground...  And dream about next winter and lots of snow.
